Our Words Need to be Watched

Guard your words and walk your talk…

Perhaps it’s different for you and I hope it is, but I spent many years reacting to emotions and allowing words fueled by fear, insecurity, and pride to escape from my mouth before sensibility, reason, and wisdom had a chance to respond.

My failure to control my words led to all sorts of situations where I had to amend, apologize, and suffer the consequences.

When I finally learned to respond rather than react, I found not only less stress and chaos in my life, but also learned that this is where the Holy Spirit in us can speak into our hearts and show us not only the words we should use but also the actions we need to back these words.

 Are you reacting or responding?..

Check your experience…

“Our behavior will convince them more than our words.” Big Book pg. 83

Lord, thank you for the reminder that while small, our tongue is mighty and we must watch our words, AMEN.

“Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.” James 3: 2-5

Have a blessed day Y’all!

  1. Words are powerful! For most of my marriage, I was verbally abusive! I could cut right to the jugular with my tongue. Something I am not proud of! But since my relationship with Christ started a few years ago, I’ve been able to slowly control the words that come out of my mouth. I am now so much better at “responding”, instead of reacting. Filling my mind with the Word of God has been slowly softening my hardened heart! What a huge difference that has, and continues to make in my marriage.
